Energy in the Air, Farming on the Ground

Summary

Another pilot locations was situated on the farmland of Kaasboerderij Mulder in Melissant, Goeree-Overflakkee, where Kitepower established a dedicated test site for the Falcon system. This location has enabled long-term operational testing in a real-world Dutch landscape, closely aligned with agricultural use. Multiple demonstration events were organized at the Melissant test site, bringing together local authorities, impact-driven investors, farmers, and technology entrepreneurs. These events provided a platform to showcase the current development status of the Falcon 100kW AWES and to exchange insights on its potential applications within the Dutch energy system. The test site has played an important role in identifying key development steps toward commercial deployment, while also increasing awareness and stakeholder engagement at both regional and national levels.

To support ongoing operations, the Municipality of Goeree-Overflakkee issued an “All-in-one Permit for Physical Aspects” (omgevingsvergunning), in coordination with Rijkswaterstaat and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). This permit enabled Kitepower to continue and expand its testing activities in the region. Since its installation, the Falcon pilot system has been operated on a weekly basis, serving as a crucial environment for technical validation, operational learning, and the further maturation of Kitepower’s technology.
